What Makes Philomilo's Greek Immersion Journey Unique?
Most Greek Courses Teach Greek. We Help You Live It.
Instead of learning vocabulary from a textbook, you'll use it while:
✓ ordering lunch in a village taverna
✓ chatting with local hosts
✓ sailing along Crete's southern coast
✓ discovering traditional food and culture
✓ sharing experiences with fellow learners
Because language is remembered best when it becomes part of your life.

Meet The Team

Your Hosts
Michalis Papadovasilakis & Velina Kordonouri-Papadovasilakis
Michalis and Velina are the heart behind the farm of Kamihis and the friends whose simple question helped inspire the very first Greek Immersion Journey.
Passionate about Cretan traditions, nature, and hospitality, they love sharing the stories, flavours, and customs that have shaped life on the island for generations.
During your stay, they will welcome you into their world through hands-on experiences that connect you with authentic rural Crete. You may learn how traditional bread is made, discover seasonal recipes, explore the properties of local herbs and wild edible greens, meet the animals that live on the farm, or enjoy stories passed down through generations.
Michalis is also a wonderful guide, with a deep knowledge of the local landscape, its history, and the healing plants that grow throughout the region. Whether walking through the countryside or sharing a meal around the table, he has a gift for helping visitors see Crete through the eyes of a local.
Together, Michalis and Velina create experiences that are warm, generous, and deeply rooted in Cretan culture — the kind of memories that stay with you long after the journey ends.

Your fitness coach
Evi Raphaelaki
Born in sunny Agios Nikolaos, where the sea is blue, the food is amazing, and apparently… future fitness coaches grow naturally, Evi went to Thessaloniki to study at The School of Sports, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a specialty on Track & Field. Four years, countless fresh juices and smoothies, and many squats later, she graduated with honors and did a Master’s in Exercise for Prevention and Rehabilitation, because helping people move better is kind of her thing.
Since 2018, she lives and breathes sports: personal training, track-and-field coaching, and later Pilates & Clinical Pilates, because balance matters — literally. In 2025, after working in two gyms in Thessaloniki and collecting enough workout playlists to last a lifetime, she returned home to Agios Nikolaos to coach in a track-and-field academy and work one-on-one with people who want to run faster, feel stronger, or simply fall back in love with their own bodies.

Your Greek Immersion Journey At A Glance
Day 1

Begin Living Greek
Your journey begins the moment you arrive in Zaros. Surrounded by mountains, olive groves, and the slower pace of village life, you'll settle into your accommodation and meet your fellow participants.
Over a traditional Cretan welcome dinner, you'll start using your first Greek phrases to introduce yourself and connect with the group. Before the evening is over, you'll already be doing what this journey is all about: using Greek naturally, sharing stories, and becoming part of the experience rather than simply observing it.
Day 2

Speak Greek Like a Sailor
After breakfast and a practical language session, you'll head to the southern coast to meet Captain Yiannis and set sail from Kali Limenes.
As you cruise along Crete's rugged shoreline, you'll hear local stories, practise everyday Greek in real conversations, and pick up some sea-inspired vocabulary along the way. From fishing terms to expressions used by locals, you'll discover how naturally language develops when it is connected to unforgettable experiences.
And don't forget your swimsuit — crystal-clear waters, hidden coves, and refreshing swims are all part of the adventure.
Day 3

Learn Greek the Village Way
Today you'll immerse yourself in rural Cretan life at the eco-farm. Meet the people, animals, and traditions that shape the local culture and discover a way of life that has been passed down through generations.
As you learn traditional recipes baked over a wood fire, meet the farm animals, and listen to stories of the land, you'll naturally expand your Greek vocabulary through authentic experiences. Later, you'll step into the circle of a traditional Greek dance, where language, music, and community come together. The day ends with a peaceful stroll around the lake, giving you time to absorb everything you've experienced and learned.
Day 4

Discover Crete Through Its Flavours
Language and culture come together through food and wine. While Crete is famous for its olive oil, the island is also home to remarkable vineyards that have flourished under the Mediterranean sun for centuries.
Today, you'll visit local wineries, discover regional traditions, and learn about the grape varieties and craftsmanship that make Cretan wines so distinctive. As you taste, listen, and share conversations around the table, you'll naturally expand your vocabulary and deepen your connection to the culture.
Because in Greece, some of the best conversations happen over a good meal and a glass of wine.
Day 5
Build Confidence Through Connection
By now, you'll likely notice something has changed. You'll be understanding more, speaking more, and feeling increasingly comfortable using Greek throughout the day.
You may also have discovered that food and slow living are at the heart of Greek culture. Around the table, people share stories, traditions, family memories, laughter, and sometimes even lively disagreements. It is where relationships are built and where language comes alive.
Today, you'll enjoy lunch at Kafenion Tsakalakis, voted one of Crete's top ten traditional kafenion. As you share another memorable meal with the group, you'll realise that every conversation, excursion, lesson, dance, and shared experience has contributed to your progress.
What once felt intimidating may now feel natural. What once required effort may now begin to flow. This is where confidence starts to replace hesitation.
Day 6
Leave With More Than Memories
As your journey comes to an end, you'll leave with more than photographs and souvenirs.
Over the past six days, you've explored Crete's landscapes, shared meals with locals, learned new traditions, discovered new vocabulary, and experienced Greek as a living language rather than a school subject.
You'll take home greater confidence in your Greek, a deeper understanding of the culture, meaningful friendships, and memories of moments that cannot be found in a guidebook.
Most importantly, you'll leave knowing that Greek is no longer something you only study. It has become something you have lived.
